Have I been WHAT now?
OK, yes the word is a little strange but, essentially it is derived from the word Owned, as in “You’re Mine” a term often used in Video Games.
What we are talking about here though, is in reference to Data Breaches, which seem to be happening on a weekly basis. Data Breaches which have exposed email addresses and passwords to Hackers.
Fortunately these breaches have now been made public and you can check whether your email address has been subject to a security breach.
You can go to the site below. Enter your email address anonymously and check which websites or services have been compromised and as such your information.
What should you do if your information is part of a breach?
Try not to panic.
Ensure you have a good Anti-Virus Solution for your computer. If you don’t have one then, we’d recommend MalwareBytes. It comes with a 14 day trial and you can and should use it scan your entire system before taking any further steps.
Change your passwords for the sites that have compromised your data. It’s worth noting that, if you also use the same combination of email address and password for other sites, even if they haven’t been breached, also change them.
In these unprecedented times, it’s more important than ever to stay secure. Cyber Criminals will use times like this for nefarious acts even more.
